Canvas Art

Canvas Art – Painting Beach Scene

Canvas Art

Canvas art as a gift for a family member. A painting or a craft project on a canvas becomes a piece of your own home’s decor and acts as a memory capsule for the whole family. You can commission an artist to paint your own original canvas art or you can buy a reproduction of a favourite artist or landscape to give as a gift.

I was asked to do a small but personal canvas art painting that has sentimental qualities, to be a gift for a treasured mother. The request was to paint the favorite family vacation spot Port Stanley Ontario and hide the names of the grandchildren in the landscape.  I was given multiple pictures from the beach but we settles on two pictures. One shows the beach landmarks and it’s surroundings and the other has a beautiful shot of the clouds. I combined the two images to get the right feelings which represents Port Stanley to the family.

Hiding the Names

My first thought was to hide the names in the clouds and then the other idea was to hide them in the sand. What I did was paint the scene in a painterly style with flowing brushwork hoping to use the brushwork as a guide for slipping the names into the painting. I ended up after many experiments giving the client two different finished products. The first is a completed painting of the landscape without the names painted onto the canvas and the second is a personalized print of the painting with the names Photoshopped into the image. This opens up a new and interesting product idea for those who are truely interrested in personalizing canvas art for their families.

This is an interesting and fun idea for canvas art and it shows how personal and powerful visual imagery, and our art can be to ourselves and our families.
