Oil painting of oak
The city on the water

The City on the Water oil painting depicts the historic Church (église de l’Annonciation)which sits on the Ottawa river acts as a magnet for social activity and community gathering. On a Sunday afternoon people drive their cars, motorcycles and take the ferry to this location to sit and watch people and boats. It is an event to stop in front of this church and enjoy the weather and the scenery before continuing on to a drive in the country or an afternoon visiting farms and the Oka cheese factory.

City on the waterThe detail in this painting needed to be matched with flowing brush work. I spent a lot of time in this section of the painting when I began, but returned with a larger brush and wider strokes to connect all the brush work to the larger purpose of this painting. Which was to depict the history of this location with the free flowing and calming attitude of the visitors to this Oka marina.
